PositionGuard ("the App") is operated by ScaleForge AI LLC ("we", "us", or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we collect, use, and share your information.

This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control your information.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your phone number for authentication purposes. We store a cryptographic hash of your phone number for contact matching. You may optionally provide a nickname displayed to group members.

Location Data: When you enable location sharing ("visible" mode), we collect your geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude). Location data is collected both while the app is in the foreground and in the background to keep your position up to date for group members.

Device Information: We collect your device type, operating system version, and app version for compatibility and debugging purposes. We collect your push notification token to deliver notifications.

Usage Data: We collect information about your groups, areas, and privacy settings to provide the service.

Usage Telemetry: To understand how PositionGuard is used and to improve the product, we collect usage telemetry — for example, which features are used, whether notifications are working, and aggregate funnel metrics. Telemetry events are associated with your account so we can understand usage over time, but they never include your location, group members, or message content. Telemetry may be turned on by default, and you can turn it off at any time in the app’s Settings. Separately, our servers record aggregate service metrics, such as how many members a request from an assistant or a home automation covered. These contain counts only, never who or where, and are used to monitor and improve the service.

• To provide location sharing within your defined areas and groups
• To authenticate your identity via phone number verification
• To send notifications about area entries/exits and group activity
• To answer requests from AI assistants you have connected, within the limits in section 5
• To maintain and improve the service
• To enforce our terms of service and prevent abuse

3. Location Data and Privacy

PositionGuard is built around the principle that you control your location data.

• Visibility Toggle: You can turn location sharing on or off at any time. When off, no location data is collected or shared.
• Area-Based Sharing: By default, your location is only visible to group members when you are inside a defined geographic area. Outside of areas, your position is not shared.
• Privacy Areas: You can create privacy zones where your location is never shared with anyone.
• No Selling of Location Data: We do not sell, rent, or trade your location data to third parties.
• No Advertising Profiles: We do not use your location data to build advertising profiles.

4. How We Share Your Information

Your location is shared only with members of groups you have joined, and only according to the privacy rules you and the group owner have configured. We do not share your personal information with third parties except:

• Service providers: We use trusted service providers to run PositionGuard on our behalf, for authentication, push notifications, real-time data synchronization, hosting and network delivery, including the service that connects assistants. They process data only to provide those services to us, under their own privacy and security commitments, and not for their own purposes.
• Assistants you connect: If you connect an AI assistant, it receives limited presence information as described in section 5, and only about members who allow it.
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or legal process.

5. AI Assistants You Connect

You can connect an AI assistant to your PositionGuard account, either by approving it in the PositionGuard app or by creating an Assistant key yourself in the developer portal.

A connected assistant can see the names of your groups and their areas, members’ nicknames, and whether members are at an area. It can also see how many people are at an area, including how many are there without sharing with assistants: a number, never who they are. It never receives coordinates, addresses or location history. Access is read-only: an assistant cannot change your settings, groups or areas, or send messages.

A member is named to assistants only if that member has turned on “Let AI agents see whether I’m at an area”, and never for areas they have hidden. Your own switch must also be on before your assistant can see anyone. An assistant cannot override these settings.

For each connection we store its name (as shown at approval, or the name you gave an Assistant key), its web address and whether we recognise it (for connections approved in the app), when it was connected and last used, and a hashed access key. For a connection you approve in the app, the key itself is held only in encrypted form by the service that connects your assistant; for an Assistant key you create in the developer portal, you hold the key yourself. Request logs are short-lived and don’t contain the presence information returned. A record that a revoked connection existed is kept until you delete your account.

You can see and revoke connections at any time in the app’s Assistants tab. A revoked connection stops working on its next request.

We don’t see your conversations with the assistant, only the requests it makes to PositionGuard. Anything we return is handled under the assistant provider’s own privacy policy, so review it before connecting.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secured servers. We use encryption for data in transit (TLS/HTTPS). Phone numbers are stored as SHA-256 hashes for contact matching. We retain position history for operational purposes — for example, to debug location accuracy issues and improve enter/exit notification reliability — and delete it when it is no longer needed for service operation. You can request deletion of your position history at any time by deleting your account or by contacting us.

7. Background Location Use

PositionGuard uses background location updates to keep your position current for group members, even when the app is not in the foreground. This occurs only when you have enabled location sharing. The frequency of background updates is adaptive — typically more often when you are moving or near a defined area boundary, and less often when stationary — and is designed to minimize battery impact. You can disable background location sharing at any time by turning off visibility in the app or by revoking location permissions in your device settings.

8. Your Rights and Choices

• Toggle Visibility: Turn location sharing on or off at any time within the app.
• Assistant Access: Turn “Let AI agents see whether I’m at an area” on or off, hide yourself at individual areas, and revoke any assistant connection in the Assistants tab.
• Block a Member: Blocking hides that member from you in the app. They are not notified, and blocking does not stop them from seeing you, so the block never tips them off. If they should no longer see you, use Block & Report so we can help resolve it, or leave the group you share or turn off your visibility.
• Report a Member: You can report a member for inappropriate behavior. We keep the report (who reported whom, when, and the reason you give) for review and to enforce our terms. Reports are kept if either account is later deleted, without the link to the deleted account.
• Leave Groups: Remove yourself from any group to stop sharing location with those members.
• Delete Account: You can delete your account and all associated data directly within the app (Settings → Delete Account). If you're unable to access the app, contact us and we'll process the deletion for you.
• Location Permissions: You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device's Settings app.

9. Children's Privacy

PositionGuard is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it. Parents and guardians who allow teenagers (13 and over) to use PositionGuard should review this Privacy Policy with them and supervise their use of the App.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the app or on our website. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
